About Our Faith Formation Program at St. Columbkille

Faith Formation is a Sunday School Bible-based Program for all children Pre-K through 6th grade. We provide formation of our Christian faith and information to develop that faith. The program follows the Sunday Gospel. The children learn their faith based on the rhythms of the liturgical year.

This program uses a method of instruction that integrates faith lessons with the Parish community and family life.

Our program is set up for the children to attend the 9:00 am Mass with their parents (September through May).  After Mass donuts, juice, healthy snacks and coffee will be served.

Sacraments are not required to attend this program. However, sacrament preparation is scheduled at a different time and will follow the Diocesan policy, which requires two years of formation preparation. For more information contact Lucia Nastasi at lnastasi@stcolumbkille.com or call the parish office at 239-489-3973.

If you are interested in registering your child or children, please feel free to print our registration pages, complete the forms, and return them to the Parish Office. We would like to have all registration forms in by September 12th so that we can plan accordingly, but your family is welcome to join at any time of the year. Registration packets are also available in the church narthex and Parish Office.

About Youth Group at St. Columbkille

Our Youth Group begins in September and is for students in grades 7-12. We strive to integrate our faith with various spiritual, social and recreational activities. Weekly meetings run from September through May. We also have social activities throughout the year that give our youth and their families a chance to be active in the parish life. Youth Group meetings are held most weeks and mass attendance is expected. Youth Group usually begins with food & social time in our Ministry Center Youth Room.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Macy Petrikas at mlogan@stcolumbkille.com or at the parish office at 239-489-3973

“Why should kids be in a Youth Group?”

Here are just a few reasons:

  1. In a Youth Group we develop lifelong friendships.
  2. Being part of a Christian group means we believe in and practice forgiveness.
  3. We look around the world and wish we could make a difference, in Youth Group we are called to serve our community and be mindful of the needs of others.
  4. Being in a Youth Group can help give us direction to choose what is right.
  5. By ourselves we don’t always feel close to God, in Youth Group we can explore and practice our faith in a safe place. And being together strengthens our faith.
  6. In Youth Group we can share our concerns and pray for them with others who care.
  7. In Youth Group all are welcome, we can bring friends who may have the same concerns or questions and need a supportive group of friends.
  8. In Youth Group we are connected to the larger church, to learn and grow in faith and love and change our world.

Come join us as we have fun, explore our faith and learn about God’s Great Love!

Youth Group will begin for grades 7-12 in September after the 5:30pm Mass on Sundays or on designated dates.

Registration packets can be done on our website or picked up at the Parish Office.

Confirmation:

Preparing for Confirmation is typically a two year process beginning in the 9th grade. Candidates should be an active member of our Youth Group or enrolled at a local Catholic High School. The second year includes sacramental preparation classes as well as participation in our Youth Group.

What is a Catechist?

A catechist … doesn’t know all the answers … doesn’t need a degree … enjoys being with children and sharing his/her faith.

A catechist … works as part of a team … is not a lecturer … knows how to listen … does fun activities … helps children and youth … celebrates her/his faith.

A catechist … plans each class beforehand using materials provided … teaches one class for one hour on Sundays after Mass … attends meetings for training and updating.

Please consider sharing your faith, your time and talents with the children of St. Columbkille. Men & women individually are welcome to join this ministry and we would be happy to see husband and wife teams as well. Call Jeannette Gotz at the Parish Office 489-3973 if you would like to learn more about this opportunity.
