Faith Formation and Youth Group
About Faith Formation and Youth Group at St. Columbkille
Faith Formation is a Sunday School Bible-based Program for all children Pre-K through 6th grade. We provide formation of our Christian faith and information to develop that faith. The program flows from the Sunday Gospel and the children will learn their faith, based on the rhythms of the liturgical year.
This program is based on a method of instruction that integrates faith formation lessons with life of the parish community experienced in the Sunday Eucharist.
Our program is set up for the children to attend the 9:00 am Mass with their parents (September through May). After Mass donuts, juice and coffee will be served in the Ministry Center.
Sacraments are not required to attend this program however sacrament preparation will be scheduled at a different time frame and will follow the Diocesan policy, which requires two years of formation. More information to follow.
On the 3rd Sunday of each month, beginning on September 15th we invite the parents of our students to come to Iona Hall for refreshments and to hear guest speakers on subjects which will be very beneficial to our young families. If you are interested in registering your child or children please feel free to print our registration pages below, complete the forms and return to the Parish Office via mail, fax or scan to Roxanne Schuster at firstname.lastname@example.org. We would like to have all registration forms in by September 1st so that we can plan accordingly.
Looking for Catechists
We are recruiting new Liturgical Catechists for our program and would like to have 2 teachers or teacher and assistant per class. We would love to have husband & wife teams as teachers. Not only would the children benefit from this but so will their parents. We anticipate a successful year for our parish children and their families. If you are interested in joining us please contact our Faith Formation Coordinator, Roxanne Schuster at 239-489-3973.
About Youth Group at St. Columbkille
It is with great pleasure that I say we will be starting a Youth Group again at St. Columbkille. I am excited to share this new experience with Deacon Jim. Together we will have a lot of fun, and grow in faith with the young people of our parish. Please join me in prayer that all who hear the call will come forward.
Someone asked “Why should kids be in a Youth Group?”
Here are just a few reasons:
- In a Youth Group we develop lifelong friendships.
- Being part of a Christian group means we believe in, and practice forgiveness.
- We look around the world and wish we could make a difference, in Youth Group we are called to serve our community and be mindful of the needs of others.
- Being in a Youth Group can help give us direction to choose what is right.
- By ourselves we don’t always feel close to God, in Youth Group we can explore and practice our faith in a safe place and being together strengthens our faith.
- In Youth Group we can share our concerns and pray for them with others who care.
- In Youth Group all are welcome, we can bring friends who may have the same concerns or questions and need a supportive group of friends.
- In Youth Group we are connected to the larger church, to learn, grow in faith, love, and change our world.
Come join us as we have fun, explore our faith and learn about God’s Great Love!
Youth Group will begin for grades 6-12 on September 15th after the 5:30 Mass on Sundays & it’s going to be awesome!
I hope you will join us.
Registration packets can be done on our website or picked up at the Parish Office.

If I am not, may God put me there; and if I am, may God so keep me.

What is a Catechist?
A catechist … doesn’t know all the answers … doesn’t need a degree … enjoys being with children and sharing his/her faith.
A catechist … works as part of a team … is not a lecturer … knows how to listen … does fun activities … helps children and youth … celebrates her/his faith.
A catechist … plans each class beforehand using materials provided … teaches one class for one hour on Sundays after Mass … attends meetings for training and updating.
Please consider sharing your faith, your time and talents with the children of St. Columbkille. Men & women individually are welcome to join this ministry and we would be happy to see husband and wife teams as well. Call Jeannette Gotz at the Parish Office 489-3973 if you would like to learn more about this opportunity.
